1. Code - systems of signs which create meaning; technical and symbolic
2. Convention - accepted/established ways of using media codes; form, story, genre
3. Encode - way in which the texts, codes, symbols are put together
4. Decode - how these can be disassembled for their meaning; how audience understand, interprets
5. Mise-en-scene - everything you can see on screen; set design, props, costume, staging & composition, color, acting
6. Camera - camera shot, angles, movement
7. Sound - diegetic (can be heard by characters /actors) and non-diegetic (only be heard by audience)
