The Technical Element of Media Language

 Mise - en - scene

Everything within the frame; there are 4 main elements here

1. Set design

How time and location of a scene is presented. It gives the overall look of the scene and is where actions are usually done.


Miss Peregrine’s Home of Peculiar Children
portrays the kids playing on the garden outside of the home.






2. Costume

How characters are expressed through their wardrobe choices and/or makeup. This may also show the time setting as well.

     1940.






3. Props

Object used on stage (screen) by actors. It usually have a function and may become the main focus in a scene or even in the production itself. 
 ↳ MacGuffin Prop - a type of prop that is important to drive the plot forward


The Umbrella Academy 
Briefcase which are the mini time travel devices which grows important in the series.






4. Staging & Composition

How the elements in a scene are placed with each other, how the shot are done to show story/meaning.
 ↳ Those elements can be a combination of characters and props.

This underwater shot is taken with undershot angle, this shows the depth of the ocean and maybe even the emptiness itself.
