Component 3: Social Media Research and Development

This blog post made by me (Nayana) contains the research I have done specifically on social media. If you would like to check my broad branding research, you can click here and for my digipak research and development, you can check here

Research

Below is Ariana Grande's social media page while promoting her newly released song "yes, and?". I took notice in her page as it's similar to the type of image we want to deliver for KIARA.

I feel she delivered that IT girl vibe really well, she presented herself in a way of ethereal but still down to earth in ways of appreciating and interacting with her fans but still has enough promotional material to be an artist. I really liked how her page looks uncoordinated but still clean, and it still falls into one concept.

Development

I started by sketching our first draft of the social media layout. This is what I have drawn after discussing with my group.

10 Qs with Kiara

One of the contents we planned out was a video of 10 Qs with Kiara, inspired by the series by Vogue where artists would answer a list of rapid-fire questions. For example, the video they did with Olivia Rodrigo.

It highlights straightforward questions, asking "normal" daily life things, nothing too personal which makes artists more comfortable in answering. With this, I made my list of 10 questions to ask Kiara which we will record on our shoot later.

1. From 1-10, how excited are you for your newest album?
2. What is your favorite drink to get?
3. What is your New Year's resolution and have you stuck to it?
4. What is your favorite trend from social media?
5. What is the one thing you must have when you go traveling?
6. What is your comfort food?
7. Show us your favorite spot in the set
8. What is the most precious gift you have received?
9. What is your favorite activity to do in your free time?
10. Lastly, deliver a short message for those who are watching right now

After this, Maxi fixed the writing of these questions.

1. From 1-10, rate how excited you are for your upcoming album release!
2. What is one drink you can’t find yourself living without?
3. What is your New Year's resolution and have you stuck to it so far?
4. What is your current favorite social media trend?
5. What is one must-have item for you when you go traveling?
6. What is your comfort food?
7. Out of all the spots in this set, which one’s your favorite?
8. What is the most precious gift you have ever received?
9. What is an activity you love to do during your free time?
10. Lastly, give us a short message for all the fans who are watching right now!

He also wrote the responses for, as our star didn't know how to answer.

1. gotta be a 10! i’ve put in so much work into this and i hope y’all are all as excited as i am!!

We ended up not using most of the answers Maxi provided as it didn't seem natural for her to answer as such and the setting just didn't support the provided answers.

Teaser

Using Audacity, I edited the music for our teaser. I incorporated the original song, instrumental and acapella version of Feather as well as some ocean waves sound effect.

Below is the final music we used

Designing the posts

I used Canva to make all the designs and post layout.

10 Questions Reel Video

On the day, I recorded while Sharon talked. We end up not using the answers that was prepared by Maxi as it didn't sound natural and she couldn't memorize it so our artist was free to answer anyway.

I help edited and captioned the video using a software, Capcut.

Below is the uploaded final video that you can see in our Instagram

Feather Dance Challenge

Dance challenge is a big thing today, especially to gain further interaction and promotion. The choreography used in the video was originally created by the content creator, Niana Guerrero. My team recorded the video on our final shoot with 2 of her friends.

Below is the uploaded final video

We also used a picture from another project she did, to have more variety and contrast

We wrote as if it was a photoshoot for a magazine

We also included personal pictures of her, to highlight the Stardom Theory of ordinariness. This is seen from her profile picture and the following post.

This is also to show her real vs reel persona as seen from pictures of her outside of being a music artist.
I asked our star to send selfies that she liked for us to use in the social media page.

Linktree

Sharon made a Linktree in order for audience to be able to get easy re-direction to our other products such as the music video link, ticket link, digipak link etc. This was useful in a way to gain attention for her other products in ways it would be easily recognizable.

Reflection: Doing research gave me insight of the conventions of an artist social media page, we tried to follow those conventions when building her Instagram. My role in the social media is making the layout for our posts and editing each post in a way that it falls together neatly. I edited everything in Canva and with feedbacks from Sharon and Timo, I feel I did everything as best as I could. What I found challenging was building and owning up to the persona we have created for Kiara, as I handled the social media page, I had to be careful to show Kiara's real persona as much as we could.

Component 3: Behind the Scenes

This blog post, made by me (Nayana) contain our filming process, including our behind the scenes and a recap from each of our shooting days.

Pre-shoot

Before our shoot, I went to buy some of the major props we will need, including our red grid blanket for our picnic and beach scenes as well as a picnic basket.

Day 1

In this day (27th January 2024) we shot our beach scenes. We promised to gather in Gunung Payung beach at 1 PM but started our shoot at around 1:45 PM

After shooting our car scenes for our beach we went through a problem. We didn't know we had to have permission to shoot in that beach and so we were told we have to pay IDR 750 000 to continue shooting there. Our solution was to go to the nearest beach which was Pandawa Beach. Thankfully we got to shoot there for free so then we continued there.

This was a very successful shoot as we managed to record everything we need and everyone also had fun during our shoot which also plays to our casts mood for our music video.

Day 2

In this day (3rd February 2024) we shot our villa scenes. Our appointment to meet at 11 AM was pushed to 12 PM as the villa would only be ready by then. But due to few circumstances, we ended up gathering at 1 and starting our shoot at around 1:30-2:00 PM.

We had to buy a bouquet first for our male actor.

Some obstacles we went through was the amount of mosquitoes and issue with consumption as we were pretty isolated but that soon to be handled. But our biggest problem was the weather. We planned to have some sunset shots and outdoor shot but the weather really wasn't supportive. Throughout our shoot, it stayed gloomy with no sign of blue sky which also affected our indoor shots. The lighting we rented also died really quickly so we couldn't utilize it.

Although we gathered few really good shots, we didn't manage to finish all of the stuff we had to do, including photoshoot and sunset shot which we had to push to our next shoot.

Day 3

In this day (8th February 2024) we focused on the car scenes and supposedly park and picnic. For this day, we had much more things to shoot so we tried making a more detailed schedule throughout the day to have time for everything. But at the end, we still gathered 30 minutes late due to some confusion regarding location. We started on our car scenes which mostly was worked by Timo and our friend Rassel who helped recording. During our shoot, we were approached by a security, but I did communicate with them to fix any misunderstandings hence we were not involved into any further issues.

It was hard to stay on schedule as our team had few discussions and different opinions for our shoot so we ended finishing late and arriving late to our second location. As we arrived on our next location, the weather was really gloomy and it started raining, which thankfully didn't last too long. But as we arrived in the park, we got told off as we were not allowed to record nor take pictures in the private property without permission. Me and Timo talked to the security and tried to negotiate but it wasn't possible so we had no other choice.

What was supposed to be the busiest shoot became our least productive one as we were not allowed to record anywhere. The unfinished shoot from our previous day was also left off so we might have to add another day. But we did took some shots secretly and recorded one of our video for social media.

Day 4

This was an unplanned day of shoot. This was to cover the park scene that we couldn't do on Day 3.  I wasn't available to attend because I was sick so for this day's summary, I took it from my teammate's blog, Sharon.

Right after school, we went to Lapangan Puputan Renon and arrived at 16:30 along with our crew and performers. All we needed to do was film the park scenes.

Timo filming from an angle overlooking straight to the top as 2 of our performers lay down the picnic blanket.

Filming the performers walking towards their spot at the park.

Filming a tilt transition as the star throws the apple upwards.

The star and 2 of our performers.

The star and 2 of our performers filming the TikTok dance challenge on 'Feather' as Timo recorded on his phone.

Today was a success despite having to add an extra day of filming. Although, we weren't able to shoot the sunset scene as there wasn't any sunset in this area. Yet, we could improvise and come up with a better ending scene. We were satisfied with today's shoot as the performers were able to show a cheerful manner on camera that further depicted the music video's lively mood. All in all, we were glad that we could finally wrap up the production stage of the music video!

Reflection:
This shoot was probably my hardest one yet, as we skipped the part of permit on our risk assessment, we had to face many obstacles. My role during our shoot was mostly on tracking our task, behind-the-scene pictures as well as communicating to the locals every time we were approached. It was difficult for us to have the shoot going on track time-wise due to the mishaps our team experienced as well so unfortunate the scheduling my teammate worked upon prior our day 3 shoot wasn't really effective. Eitherway this made me realize the importance of the risk assessments as it could affect our shoot greatly.

Component 3: Filming Preparation

This blog post, created by me (Nayana) features how we prepared for our filming before the actual day of the shoot.

Through this blogpost, you can access our behind-the-scenes and get an insight of how our shoot went.

Preparation

Before we broadcast to our fixed cast, my group and I discussed our filming schedule and planned out what to shoot on which day. We originally planned to start shooting last December but due to some obstacles, we were unable to which led us to start shooting in late January.

Broadcast

After finalizing our filming schedule, we broadcast it through a WhatsApp group that I made which had the production team and our cast. We also utilize this group for updates and communication to ease our shoot.

I was in charge of communication in the group, giving updates and detailed information, but I also received help from my teammates in cases I was occupied and it was urgent or when it was more efficient when they did it. This helped a lot as it made shooting easier and made sure everyone was on the same page.

Reflection:
The table me and my group made for our filming schedule was really effective as it shows all important information for us to remember for the day of shoot, and I find tables as easiest to read and process. The use of WhatsApp groupchat was also very useful not only for me but everyone who was involved in this project. Other than that, my responsibility as one who communicated in the group also helped me learn more about writing formally and gave me more experience as like an organizer of a project so I found it really fun and useful for my use in the future.
